Static (Low Stretch) Climbing Ropes

Static or low-elongation ropes are designed for rappelling, rigging, hauling, work positioning, and rescue application where a fall will not need to be absorbed.  Static climbing ropes should not be used for leading climbing where long falls might occur.  Some commerical organizations and ropes challenge courses that make use of overhead belays prefer static ropes for top roping to limit fall lengths.  Prior to installing static ropes on a ropes challenge course, ropes challenge course managers should consult their builder.
